Proactive Public Policy, Fighting for Labour Rights, and Indigenous Issues were themes of Day Two of AFL Convention 2017
After a morning with two powerful keynote speakers, Kaylie Tiessen and David Madland, convention broke to recognize the Day of Mourning at a ceremony in Borden Park. Before marching to the park, delegates gave Labour Minister Christina Gray a standing ovation for her Day of Mourning announcement on Alberta putting in place a system to enforce the Westray Act.
The afternoon saw our first Dream Bigger Panel of the convention on “Labour Rights for All”, and ended with a passionate speech on Organized Labour and Indigenous Peoples from Tina Keeper, who reminded us that "We all have the same struggle... we need to get to know each other".
